Police: Men robbed bank via drive-through window

SANFORD, Fla., April 23 (UPI) -- Florida authorities said they arrested a pair of men accused of robbing a bank in the drive-through lane by claiming to have a bomb.

The Sanford Police Department said Robert Shaw and Matthew Cosimini pulled up to a drive-through lane at Regions Bank in Sanford just before 3 p.m. Friday and sent a note to the teller implying they had a bomb and would set it off if they did not receive cash, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Tuesday.

The teller handed over an unspecified amount of money and the men sped off, said Capt. James McAuliffe, spokesman for the Sanford Police Department.

McAuliffe said police soon caught up to the men and they crashed their green pickup truck into a car and a police cruiser before surrendering to police.

"We've had people robbing banks through the drive-through before. Typically they are soon captured," McAuliffe said.

"It's an odd thing, but these are extremely serious offenses," McAuliffe said. "It's not taken lightly."

A bomb squad searched the car and did not find any explosives.

Shaw and Cosimini were both charged with robbery, aggravated battery and resisting arrest.
