SAUGERTIES, N.Y., April 12 (UPI) -- A teenager in New York's Hudson Valley was arrested Friday for bringing a toy gun to school, police said.

William J. Hung, 18, of Saugerties, about 110 miles north of New York City, was charged with the misdemeanor of criminal nuisance after being found with a cap gun on high school property, police said.

Saugerties Junior-Senior High School staff had told police several people reported seeing someone in the school parking lot with what appeared to be a handgun, the Daily Freeman of nearby Kingston reported.

School-safety procedures and parent notifications were put into effect. Classes were halted until the threat precautions were ended.

Hung is to appear in Saugerties Town Court Wednesday.
