Linkoping nurse gets parking ticket during busy ER shift

LINKOPING, Sweden, April 11 (UPI) -- A Swedish nurse said a parking enforcement company refused to waive a fine he incurred while working in the emergency room on a busy night.

Martin von Wiren, an assistant nurse at the university hospital in Linkoping, said he parked in an area during a March shift that was marked a "no parking zone" between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the hopes he'd be able to move his car before 10, but heavy snow caused a large number traffic accidents that kept him too busy to re-park his car, The Local.se reported Thursday.

"When I saw the parking ticket I just sighed," von Wiren said. "I read that I could appeal and I was sure I had a reasonable cause for cancellation of my ticket."

Von Wiren said he lodged an appeal with the company, but it refused to waive the fine, even with a note from the hospital.

The nurse said his employer offered to pay the ticket, but he does not want to spend taxpayer money on the issue.

He said company officials have not offered him any explanations for why his appeal was denied.

"I've gotten three parking tickets in my life, including this one, but the first two were definitely my fault," he said. "This is without a doubt the worst parking ticket I've received or heard of to date."
