TORONTO, April 10 (UPI) -- A Toronto raccoon has become a local and online celebrity for his tendency to cross neighborhood streets using power lines and telephone cables as high wires.

Mavis Knight, who lives in the Danforth-area neighborhood inhabited by the daredevil raccoon, captured video footage of the creature April 3, the Toronto Star reported Wednesday.

"I thought if I tell my husband this is what I saw, he'll never believe me," Knight said. "I was a little worried about [the raccoon] but he seemed to be doing whatever he needed to do to get to the other side."

"I was saying to my husband that I think he used to be a human being. It's unbelievable, you know," she said.

The video was posted to YouTube by Peter Buban, a co-worker of Knight's husband.

Knight said she was happy to help boost the public perception of raccoons.

"It's been nice to talk about raccoons in a positive way," she said. "People always say bad things about raccoons and make you scared of them so it's nice to get some positivity for a creature that is always despised."
