Fitness USA, which has three locations in Wayne County, announced men will no longer be welcome to work out at the Taylor location as of this month, The Detroit News reported Tuesday. Advertisement "This is discrimination," said member Roger Kruzman, who said he and other members of both sexes are planning to protest outside the gym. The Lincoln Park location is the only Fitness USA in the county to continue to allow men to work out, but only on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. "How can they do that when you pay membership and especially if you have a lifetime membership?" asked Kruzman's wife, Wanda, who canceled her membership in protest. "Why shouldn't [men] be able to use the Taylor location?" Jodi Berry, Fitness USA executive director, said the move was a business decision. "We've done a lot of research and the trends indicate that a women-only environment is something that is welcomed," she said. "We think this will be a business change that will be a positive move." Advertisement Berry said male members are being offered upgraded privileges at the Lincoln Park facility, including daily access, free unlimited tanning, free WiFi and benefits for family members.
