Dallas man known for colorful hats

DALLAS, April 7 (UPI) -- An eccentric Dallas businessman says his collection of more than 50 colorful, custom-made hats brings him a lot of compliments.

Ferdinand Hauslein Jr., 69, recently added two custom-made gambler-style -- one pink and one orange -- to his collection, each of which cost about $275, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.

"Nobody wears a pink hat," Hauslein said. "I'm very confident with the fashion statement I make."

Hauslein, who owns International Security in Dallas, said he can tell he looks good when someone compliments his hats. "That's called hat power," he said.

Joe Peters, owner of Peters Brothers in Fort Worth where Hauslein gets his hats made, said Hauslein's brightly colored hats were odd, but he has made pink hats.

"I am always happy to make a hat for somebody ... pink or any other color," Peters said, adding that customers can ask for any color.
