Brothers' babies born 82 minutes apart

MINEOLA, N.Y., April 5 (UPI) -- A pair of New York brothers said they are relying on one another for support after becoming fathers within 82 minutes of each other.

Nick Pereira said he and his wife, Beth, went to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola Wednesday without knowing his brother, David, and sister-in-law, Claudia, were already there until the brothers exchanged text messages about their wives being in labor, ABC News reported Friday.

Nick and Beth's second child, Nathaniel, was born nine days early Wednesday, while David and Claudia's first child, Gwyneth, was born one day early.

The brothers said they are happy to have each other for support.

"We talked about how amazing this is, that it actually happened on the same day and the whole procedure of the wives' giving birth," Nick Pereira said. "We talked about how amazing it was to go through it at the same time and how amazing women are that they can do this. We think men wouldn't be able to handle it."

He said the families are close and they are hoping David and Gwyneth will share a special bond.

"I hope there will be a special bond, the way our families are, we are always together. Growing up and being together and sharing a birthday will help them have a closer bond than a sibling that's three or four years apart," he said.
