LAWRENCE, Ind., March 20 (UPI) -- Police in Indiana said a suspect told officers he would have smoked the marijuana found in his car if he had known it was there.

Lawrence police said Eric Williams, 25, was pulled over for speeding early Wednesday and Officer Tim Christie detected the odor of marijuana in the 2010 Honda, The Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday.

Williams said he did not have any marijuana in the vehicle, but a search of the car uncovered marijuana wrapped in brown cigar paper in the center console of the Honda.

Williams said he had been unaware of the cannabis.

"Williams stated that he would have smoked the marijuana if he knew it was in the vehicle," the arrest report states.

Williams was arrested on a marijuana possession charge and issued a citation for speeding.
