Mother, son compete for mayor's office

DIXMOOR, Ill., March 8 (UPI) -- An Illinois mother and son running against each other in a mayoral race said they would have different priorities if elected to the office.

Wendy Casey, 45, and her son, Randall Casey, 27, said there are some challenges involved in being two of the four Dixmoor mayoral candidates on April's ballot while sharing a home, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

"I wish I could evict his ass," Wendy Casey said with a laugh.

The pair said they mostly only talk at home when they bump into each other in the kitchen or when they are pooling their money for rent.

Randall said he wants the suburb to undergo a forensic audit and to operate on a smaller budget while bringing in economic and social development. His mother said her priorities would include reoccupying abandoned homes, rebuilding Dixmoor's dated sewer system and promoting community involvement.

The Caseys said they hope not to have to run against each other in any future elections.

"I hope not," Wendy said.

"I hope we can come to a consensus where she can support me," Randall said.

"I hope we can come to a consensus where he can support me," Wendy replied.
