Authorities said an Austin schools police officer pulled over the maroon Saturn sedan near Lanier High School around 5 p.m. Jan. 17 and discovered it was bring driven by the Wooldridge Elementary School fifth-grader and the boy's 9-year-old brother was in the passenger seat, the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday.
The driver told the officer his aunt had given him the keys to her car and told him to pick up his sister.
Police said the aunt, Carolina Romero-Gonzalez, 40, was interviewed by an officer and denied giving the keys to her nephew. However, she was interviewed a second time Jan. 24 and admitted to giving the keys to the boy.
Police said a warrant has been issued for Romero-Gonzalez' arrest on the felony charge of abandoning or endangering a child. Bail was set at $7,500.
