MELBOURNE, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Fla., welcomed a newborn giraffe this week -- the second giraffe to be born at the zoo since the beginning of February.

The 145-pound female giraffe was born Tuesday to mother Milenna, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

Zoo spokeswoman Shelley Szafraniec, who announced the birth Saturday, said the baby and her mother are bonding well.

The birth came just weeks after a male calf was born to mother Johari on Feb. 6 at the zoo, officials said.

Zoo officials said this was the first time two giraffe calves have been born within a month of each other at the zoo.

Both the newborns and their mothers will be held in a special enclosure until all four are ready to join the giraffe herd.
