MOSCOW, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The Moscow Zoo announced the facility's first-ever hatching of a pink pelican from an egg placed in an incubator at the close of last year.

The zoo said the egg hatched Jan. 13, 31 days after it was placed in the incubator, RIA Novosti reported.

"This is the first birth of its kind in the history of the zoo," the zoo said on its website. "The pelican will be in the care of ornithologists until the start of the warm May nights, after which it will be released into the pond to join the adult pelicans."
