NEW YORK, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A New York firm that is the world's largest fortune-cookie maker says it has removed romantic messages from its treats after parents complained.

"Some parents sent us emails. They said they didn't want their kids reading them," said Derrick Wong, a vice president at Wonton Food. "Different people have a different perspective."

The fortunes that have been abolished included, "One who admires you greatly is hidden before your eyes" and "The evening promises romantic interest," the New York Post reported Sunday.

Company officials said that if they get more than two or three complaints about a fortune, they will stop using them.

The Post said the messages have been replaced with "You make everyday special" and "No one on Earth is as beautiful as you."

Fortune-cookie experts, such Jennifer 8. Lee, author of "The Fortune Cookie Chronicles," said it's best to keep messages bland.

The company products 5 million cookies every day from plants in New York, Houston and Texas, the Post said.
