LARGO, Fla., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- An alligator moseying through a Largo, Fla., neighborhood was rescued by sheriff's deputies and wildlife officers after it became stuck in a storm drain.

The sheriff's office said it was alerted to the distressed gator, about three blocks from an elementary school, by a "concerned citizen" who saw the reptile's body sticking out of the drainage opening, the sheriff's office said Saturday in a release.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said the alligator, measuring 8 feet, entered the drain headfirst Friday.

When a trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded, deputies and citizens pulled the alligator out of the opening Friday.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials will transport it to an alligator farm near Dover once it is examined for injuries, the sheriff's office said.
