HEMET, Calif., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- California authorities said a bomb scare turned out to be a false alarm when it was discovered the suspicious device was just a breast pump.

Six homes in Hemet were evacuated Friday when the gadget was found in a mailbox by a resident who had no idea what it was or how it got there.

The puzzled resident noticed the metal box and wires and decided to call the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

The (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise said the bomb squad was dispatched to the scene and ordered the neighbors out of their homes for nearly 2 hours while technicians investigated the object.
