Court cites high alcohol tolerance

YSTAD, Sweden, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A Swedish court cited a 61-year-old man's high tolerance for alcohol in tossing out aggravated drunken driving charges.

The Ystad man was pulled over in November on his way to his night shift job and his blood-alcohol content was found to be five times the legal limit for driving, The Local.se reported Wednesday.

The man admitted to drinking heavily before driving, but contended he did not feel under the influence because his heavy drinking habits had given him a high tolerance. He also said the wine he consumed right before driving put him over the limit, but he had thought it was non-alcoholic at the time.

The man was charged with aggravated drunken driving due to his high blood-alcohol level, but the court tossed out the charges, citing the man's high alcohol tolerance.

Rahm Emanuel reports for jury duty

CHICAGO, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel showed up for jury duty at the Richard J. Daley Center, but was sent home after a few hours.

The mayor's office said Emanuel met his fellow potential jurors Tuesday morning and watched a video called "How to Be a Juror," but was ultimately not selected to serve in a trial, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Emanuel was at the Daley Center from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Library offers pole dancing class

DALKEITH, Scotland, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A Scottish library used pole dancing classes as part of a daylong event designed to drum up interest in the facility.

The Mayfield Library in Dalkeith hosted a pole dancing class Saturday with teacher Nikki Clark as part of Love Your Library Day, which also featured table tennis with books instead of paddles, head massages and Scottish country dancing, STV reported Wednesday.

"Love Your Library Day is a marvelous opportunity for us all to celebrate the hugely important role libraries play in the heart of our local community," said Bob Constable of Midlothian Council. "The pole fitness session is a fun and interesting way of encouraging more people into our libraries, trying out all the services on offer and ultimately borrowing more books."

World's Longest Cat dies

RENO, Nev., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The Nevada owner of Stewie, the Guinness World Record holder for Longest Domestic Cat, said the feline was put down Monday after a battling lymphosarcoma.

Robin Hendrickson said the 8-year-old cat, measuring more than 4 feet from nose to tail, was diagnosed with the condition, a malignant disease of the lymphoid tissue, in early 2012 and he underwent chemotherapy for a time, KOLO-TV, Reno, reported Wednesday.

"Not everyone can afford chemo for their cats," she said. "I'm still in debt up to my eyeballs, but I'm glad I did it. It gave him a longer life."

"He fought it for a long time," Hendrickson said. "He fought it for about 8 months"

Hendrickson said Stewie was healthy for a short time, but soon had a lump on his kidney.

The feline was put down Monday.

"It was one of the hardest things I had to do, but one of the best things I've ever done," she said. "They kept telling me he wasn't in pain, but there was some suffering there."

"The biggest last moment I'm going to remember is him looking at me and saying 'You know, we did good together mom,'" Hendrickson said.
