COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- An Irish woman living in Denmark said the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen will be lit up green for St. Patrick's Day.

Siobhan Kelleher, organizer of Denmark's annual St. Patrick's Day Three-Legged Charity Race, said the bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid will be bathed in green light during a ceremony the day before the March 17 holiday.

"We are honored to arrange such a special event and absolutely delighted the Little Mermaid can be part of this Greening campaign. Who better to raise Ireland's tourism profile than us-- the Irish Diaspora," Kelleher said.

The Little Mermaid will join landmarks around the world including the Sydney Opera House, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Dubai's Burj al Arab, New York's Empire State Building and the London Eye in being illuminated green for the holiday.
