BERLIN, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Germany's Federal Statistics Office said the country's beer brewing has reached its lowest point in more than two decades.

The office said the country produced 2.55 billion gallons of beer in 2012, the lowest since 1990 and nearly 2 percent less than in 2011, The Local.de reported Wednesday.

"This was the lowest amount since reunification," the office's statement said.

The office said nearly 84 percent of the beer created in Germany in 2012 was consumed inside the country.
