MIAMI, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A former Florida mayor emerged from nearly two years out of the spotlight to take first place at an "Over 60s" bodybuilding competition.
Former Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez took first prize at the National Physique Committee's South Florida "Over 60s" Master's bodybuilding competition at Miami's James L. Knight Center, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
Alvarez, who lost his position in a March 2011 recall election amid allegations of rewarding inappropriate raises to his inner circle and supporting a new $634 million ballpark for the Miami Marlins, now qualifies for the prestigious Junior National Master's competition, event promoter Sergio Pacheco said.
