VILLENAVE D'ORNON, France, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A French woman was literally late for her own funeral, and her family is suing a funeral director for not delivering her body on time.

It was the wish of Maria-Louise Malca to be buried next to her husband in Villenave d'Ornon, near Bordeaux, France, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) from the nursing home where she died, the French news website The Local.fr reported.

Her family gathered for her Jan. 11 funeral at the grave site, but after her body did not arrive, the ceremony was held without her. It was delivered later in the day, the newspaper Sud-Ouest said.

Although the funeral director acknowledged a "mistake," the family will sue for "moral damages," Sud-Ouest said.
