NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- New York police said they have arrested a teenager accused of making more than 400 hoax 911 calls since May 2012.

Police said Dean Whylie, 16, disguised his voice as a girl to make the 404 calls beginning May 26, and used two cellphones that had not been activated, so they were only able to make emergency calls and were difficult to trace, the New York Post reported Friday.

Investigators said the bogus reports included calls about shots fired, road accidents and police officers in need of assistance.

Police said they were able to trace cellphone pings to the teen's home Tuesday after his final 911 call Monday.

Police said the teenager did not give them a reason for his hoax calls.

Whylie was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal impersonation, obstruction of governmental administration, filing false reports and criminal nuisance.
