NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The mayor of a New Jersey city is promoting "The Caliber Collection," a line of jewelry made from gun casings and bullets seized by police.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker unveiled the first pieces from the collection, made from melted down weapons seized by his city's police department, Wednesday night on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show," The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.

Booker said the idea is to turn the melted guns and bullets into "an instrument of peace," of which a portion of the profits will go toward the city's gun buyback amnesty program.

The jewelry, available at calibercollection.com, ranges in price from $150 to $375.
