WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A Kansas man said he was devastated when a burglar stole his collection of more than 500 Ken Griffey Jr. baseball cards.

Christopher Fevurly of Wichita said he returned from a recent weeklong vacation to Arizona and discovered someone had used his daughter's high chair to smash a window at his home and made off with items, including a TV, a computer monitor and his Griffey card collection, which he started in 1989, KAKE-TV, Wichita, reported Monday.

"Putting monetary value on that is kind of hard to do," Fevurly said. "I'm at a loss for words."

He said some of the cards are worth $50 to $75 each, but most are only worth 50 to 75 cents apiece. However, he said the collection holds enormous sentimental value for him.

"I've got a 6-year-old boy here and this is something I could pass along to him," Fevurly said.

Vince Oliver, owner of Oliver's Sports Cards and Memorabilia in Wichita, said cards taken during such burglaries are occasionally recovered, but not often.

"I've actually been a part of several where we caught some people who have stolen from somebody else and then tried to sell to me," Oliver said.

Fevurly said he will try to rebuild his collection.

"I'm definitely going to try and replace them," Fevurly said. "They can be replaced. I'm just lucky we weren't here. You can't replace a human life."
