BEIJING, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Chinese registry offices said there was an influx of people seeking to marry Friday due to the date sounding like "I will love you all my life" in Mandarin.

Officials in Beijing said at least 10,000 couples are scheduled to marry Friday and more have been lining up without prior appointments because the Mandarin for Jan. 4, 2013, is phonetically similar to the phrase, "I will love you all my life," the BBC reported Friday.

Friday has been nicknamed "love you forever day," with registry offices in Hunan province reporting couples standing in line in the rain for the chance to wed on the date.
