CARTERSVILLE, Ga., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Authorities in Georgia said they arrested a school board member accused of intentionally striking a teenager with her car.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office said they reviewed a surveillance video from the Walmart parking lot in Cartersville, and the video clearly depicts Angela Cornett, a county school board member, talking to the 17-year-old girl standing in a parking spot before lurching her car forward into the space, WAGA-TV, Atlanta, reported Thursday.

Investigators said the teenager, an Adairsville High School student, was not seriously injured, but her pants bore a black mark allegedly from the tires of Cornett's Lexus.

"The deputy on the scene actually went and watched the video before he made any charges against Miss Cornett and from watching the video, it's obvious that the pedestrian was standing there when the vehicle lurched forward and has to move out of the way very quickly. You can't tell close up how she was struck or exactly how hard she was struck, but you can see she was standing there when the vehicle lurched forward," sheriff's Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said.

Cornett was charged with reckless conduct. The sheriff's office said further charges could be possible.
