Lottery ticket hunt lands man in waste bin

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Emergency responders in Amsterdam said they rescued a 76-year-old man who became trapped in an underground paper container while looking for his lottery ticket.

Police said the man lowered himself into the underground waste paper container when he realized he had accidentally thrown away his lottery ticket and was heard shouting for help when he was unable to climb back out.

Police and firefighters arrived and were able to rescue man, who was not injured.

The man was not able to find his lottery ticket, police said.

They said it was not yet known whether the ticket was a winner.
