Craigslist buyer seeks stolen bike's owner

Jan. 2, 2013 at 3:23 PM   |   Comments

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A Columbus, Ohio, woman, suspecting the bicycle she bought on Craigslist was stolen, posted her own listing seeking to return it to its rightful owner.

"Stolen bike I would like to return," read Christine Jinks' listing Friday on the classified advertising website, in an ad full of exclamation points and an explanation of her intent.

Columbus police said they were impressed with her honesty.

"I wish everyone was like that," Sgt. Rich Weiner said. "Unfortunately it's very rare that we find a person wanting to do the right thing."

Jinks was advised by police to call detectives in the burglary or property-recovery units, The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday, noting police have databases and theft reports to compare property, and a policy of returning bicycles after 30 days to those who bring them in, if the owner cannot be found.
