Santa robs safe in Australian mall

SYDNEY, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- A Santa Claus, or at least someone wearing a Santa suit, walked off with the contents of a safe in an Australian shopping center, police said.

The theft occurred at about 8 p.m. Sunday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. Police said the safe was at the Westfield shopping center in the southwestern suburb of Liverpool.

Investigators have released images captured by security cameras. What they show is someone with almost all facial features hidden by a voluminous false white beard and suited from head to toe as Santa, including white gloves.

Santa has a cane and is pushing a shopping cart holding a red bag, presumably containing the loot.
