LONDON, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Thousands of Britons celebrated Christmas morning by taking a leap into frigid waters as part of events organized around the country.

Swimmers in locations including London's Hyde Park and Exmouth, England, plunged into the cold waters as part of events organized across the British Isles Christmas morning -- some of which raised money for various charities -- The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

The Exmouth event included more than 1,000 people, wearing costumes including Santa Claus and daleks from "Doctor Who." Some other swimmers opted for two-piece bikinis or skimpy "mankinis" popularized by the movie "Borat."
