NEW DELHI, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A restaurant waiter in the Indian capital escaped injury after being shot at by a young man apparently irate over being served leftover food, police said.

The incident occurred Sunday at a "dhaba" or roadside restaurant in New Delhi's upscale Connaught Place area, The Hindu reported.

The shooter was one of three friends who allegedly beat up the waiter after he refused to eat the same food they had been served, which they complained was leftover stuff. The man then fired a gunshot at the waiter, police said.

The report said the bullet missed the waiter and struck the roof of the restaurant.

Police had arrested the shooter while the other two remained at large. Police also recovered a pistol from the scene and impounded a car believed to belong to the assailants.
