New Zealand bus stop changed into lounge

Dec. 16, 2012 at 2:24 PM

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A bus stop in Wellington, New Zealand, has been made over by an unknown person to make it more comfortable, complete with couches, passersby say.

The brick bus shelter was made over into a lounge sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning and seemed to yet be unfinished, as some items had been removed or replaced, The Dominion Post, Wellington, reported.

Two worn couches, a rug, a hot water bottle and a small library with books have been put in the shelter, making it more comfortable for people waiting for the bus.

Dermot Burke said the stop is the most comfortable one he had seen. "Anything is an improvement from an empty shed," he said.

Most passersby hypothesized that artists moving out of the area left the furniture.

"Isn't it just great?" she said. "It looks like an art student, someone with design and humor."
