YOSHKAR-OLA, Russia, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A Russian teenager accused of stealing 4.2 gallons of honey was arrested when police tracked him via slippers left at the scene.

Police said the 17-year-old, whose name wasn't released, entered an apartment in Yoshkar-Ola and took the jars of honey, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

Investigators said the thief left in a hurry when the clanking of the jars alerted a resident. The thief left behind a pair of slippers.

A police dog used the slippers to track the suspect to an apartment on the higher floor than the crime scene. The teenager admitted to the crime, police said.
