FORSHAGA, Sweden, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Authorities in Sweden said a bright blue light in the sky and an orange-colored orb crashing to the ground may have been a meteorite.

Police in Forshaga were the first to receive calls about the unexplained light show around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday and calls soon poured in to departments in other western towns, the Swedish news agency TT reported Wednesday.

"We don't know, but it could have been a part of the meteor shower people have been talking about," said Officer Leif Svensson of the Varmland County police.

Svensson said the reports were widespread.

"And we've also received information that people on the west coast and even in Finland made observations," Svensson said.
