BOSTON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A South Boston man said the annual Santa Speedo Run was a natural place to pop the question to his fiancee this weekend.

Chuck Mattera was decked out in the race's standard uniform of Santa hat and form-fitting swimsuit when he whipped out the ring and proposed to Tina McDavitt on Newbury Street.

The couple has been an item for three years, and the Santa Speedo Run played a key role in their relationship. "The first photo she ever saw of me was at the Speedo Run years ago, Mattera told the Boston Herald.

McDavitt admitted she was taken by surprise when her guy pulled up in the middle of the race. "When he pulled out the ring, I couldn't breathe," she said."

"At first I was confused," McDavitt recalled. "I was like, 'What are you doing, you have to finish your race.'"
