CANBERRA, Australia, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard says she is ready for the end of the world.

Gillard appeared on "The End of the World Show," a spoof commercial for a Triple J radio breakfast show.

"It turns out the Mayan calendar is true," a straight-faced Gillard said, referring to the prediction the world will end Dec. 21.

She said Australia survived the Y2K crisis and a dispute about carbon taxes. But she said the end is now on its way.

"Whether the end comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hill beasts or the total triumph of K-Pop (Korean popular music), if you know one thing about me it is this: I will always fight for you to the very end," she promised. "And at least I will never have to do Q&A again."
