NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Authorities in California said a man accused of repeatedly dumping soiled adult diapers on roads faces a misdemeanor charge.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office said Tomoo Kawai, 67, of Newport Beach, allegedly dumped bags of soiled adult diapers in roadways in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach on multiple occasions from June 27 to Sept. 24, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Police said they caught Kawai when they discovered an envelope bearing his address in one of the bags. Another bag of soiled diapers was discovered in his car, police said.

Kawai is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 17 on a charge of prohibited waste disposal. He faces as much as six months in jail and probation if convicted on the charge.
