SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The Maine Mall said its Santa Claus is being replaced after a parent complained he was rude to her 6-year-old daughter and would not let her sit in his lap.

The mother, whose name was not released, said her daughter, Chantel Mailhiot, 6, was prevented from sitting on Santa's lap at the South Portland Mall when she refused to buy a $20 photo package, WGME-TV, Portland, reported Thursday.

The mother said her daughter asked Santa for an "American Girl doll" and he replied she would receive an "American football."

The mall said a new Santa Claus will be in place Thursday.

The former Santa declined to comment, WGME-TV said.
