HOUSTON, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Neighbors of a Houston middle school said a goat picked up by police was a "mean old goat" that had threatened students and other pedestrians.

Carl Johnson said he came outside Tuesday morning when he heard a commotion outside his home, located near Lamar Fleming Middle School, and saw the unusual animal, KTRK-TV, Houston, reported Wednesday.

"The landlord right there came out and had his broom and shooed him on up this way," he said. "He's a mean old goat."

The principal of the school said she called animal control and had students gather in the cafeteria while officers came to pick up the goat, which she described as aggressive. The principal said the goat tried to head butt and bite students but did not succeed in injuring anyone.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the goat's owner has 18 days to claim him, then the animal will be sent to auction.
