YVRAC, France, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- French authorities said they are investigating after builders demolished an 18th century chateau in an apparent mistake.

The mayor of Yvrac, France, said he ordered construction halted and an investigation opened after the Polish building firm demolished the nearly 140,000-square-foot Chateau de Bellevue in the Bordeaux vineyards, France 24 reported Wednesday.

Russian businessman Dmitry Stroskin said he does not plan to prosecute the builders.

"The damage has been done," Stroskin said.

Stroskin said he hopes to rebuild the chateau.
