ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A mentally ill Michigan man told police he stole a school bus in Wyoming, Mich., so he could drive to Detroit to record rap music and become a star.

Josiah Daniel Curtis, 25, of Grand Rapids, is in jail on charges of driving without a license and receiving and concealing stolen property, The Detroit News reported.

Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies arrested Curtis on Thanksgiving after receiving a call that someone was driving a school bus erratically in the Ann Arbor area

Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said when the bus was finally stopped, Curtis told deputies he was headed to Detroit to work on some music.

Police in Wyoming, Mich., where the school bus was stolen, said he crashed several buses before managing to drive one out of the lot.

Curtis' mother told police her son has a history of mental illness that began when he was in high school, WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, Mich., reported.

Probate court records show the family made an effort to get help for their son. In one year alone, he was in and out of psychiatric hospitals five times.
