Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe SEMINOLE, Fla., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The rhesus macaque monkey on the loose in Florida's Tampa Bay area for more than a year may have a permanent home at a trapper's facility. Baryl Martin, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said the state is likely to sign the monkey, which has been dubbed Cornelius, over to trapper Vernon Yates, who helped with rescue efforts and has been keeping the animal at his wildlife facility in Seminole, the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday. Advertisement Veterinarian Don Woodman, who has been monitoring the monkey since his capture Oct. 24, said he has been happy with Cornelius' behavior in captivity. "When I've seen him, he's been really mellow," Woodman said. "Surprisingly mellow." Kathy Stearns, the zoo's director, said Cornelius may be introduced to a female of the species in an attempt at breeding.
