AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Officials in Amsterdam said a popular statue has been sent for repair after its legs were broken when a truck backed into it.
The officials said the sculpture of a young boy, titled Het Lieverdje, had its legs broken Tuesday when a truck backed into it on the Spui square in the center of the city, DutchNews.nl reported Tuesday.
The statue, which was made by sculptor Carel Kneulman and has stood on the Spui since 1960, was sent to a bronze workshop for repair and will be returned to its position as soon as possible, a spokesman said.
