ST. LOUIS, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A Missouri Goodwill store said a stack of cash has been returned to its rightful owner after six months of legal wrangling.

Mark Jacobs, an attorney for MERS Goodwill, said at least 15 people attempted to claim the $14,505 when it was discovered in May at the Sappington Goodwill store. St. Louis County Associate Circuit Judge Brenda Stith Loftin ruled Monday the money rightfully belongs to Renee Stout of Webster Groves, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Stout said her mother had been known to stash cash at her Columbia, Ill., home and the money was apparently mixed in with items she donated to the store after holding an estate sale at her parents' home.

The company that hauled the items, and the hidden cash, to Goodwill had also sued to gain possession of the money.

Jacobs said Stout will receive the cash, minus $979 to pay Goodwill for legal fees.
