LEDBURN, England, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A participant in Britain's 1963 "Great Train Robbery" confessed on his deathbed to striking the engine driver on the head, The Sun reported.

Sources told the British tabloid James Hussey, who died Monday in hospice care, admitted on his deathbed that he was the one who struck the engineer, Jack Mills, 57, on the head during the train robbery in Ledburn, England.

The crime, which has been dubbed the "Great Train Robbery," involved seven robbers who were each sentenced to 30 years in jail for stealing $4,112,040 from the train.

Mills never recovered from his head injuries and died seven years later. His family members have said his wounds were believed to have contributed to his death.
