ROME, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Italy's Radical Party called a sit-in for Friday in front of the parliament building in Rome to demand the decriminalization of medical marijuana cultivation.

Rita Bernardini, a member of Parliament from the Radical Party, carried marijuana plants and handed out "samples" cultivated from her home in Rome at Friday's "Cannabis: Italy calling the U.S." protest in front of the Palazzo Montecitorio, ANSA reported.

"I received a lot of advice like the correct sun exposure, the type of fertilizer used for flowering ... and the result is great," Bernardini said.

The sit-in was organized after the U.S. states of Colorado and Washington voted Tuesday to legalize marijuana for medical and recreational purposes.
