Advertisement The Levy County Sheriff's Office said Lonnie Wilkerson, 64, of Chiefland was riding his horse down a road around 11 p.m. Monday after drinking vodka when the animal bucked him off its back. Wilkerson, who was holding a 40-caliber pistol, fired off several shots at the horse, but all of them missed. Wilkerson was treated for minor injuries from his fall and jailed on a charge of using a firearm while under the influence of alcoholic beverage. Woman, 106, votes for the first time SPARTANBURG, S.C., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A 106-year-old South Carolina woman who voted for the very first time in the presidential election said she felt "all right" after casting her ballot. Gladys Miller of Spartanburg County cast her vote Tuesday at the Swofford Career Center near the Fingerville community after registering to vote only a few weeks ago, WSPA-TV, Spartanburg, reported Wednesday. Miller, who lives with her niece, said she felt "all right" after voting. Family members said other women in the family have been voting for decades, but this was Miller's first election. Missing tortoise found 50 miles from home ALAMOGORDO, N.M., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Animal control authorities in New Mexico said they do not know how a tortoise ended up 50 miles away from where it vanished from its owner's home. Authorities said the African spurred tortoise was reported missing from its home in Alamogordo and turned up a week and a half later crossing a road at the Cree Meadows golf course in Ruidoso, KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, reported Wednesday. Boy takes parents' savings, buys candy KONOTOP, Ukraine, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old Ukrainian boy spent nearly $4,000 on candy in several days, the money coming from his parents' savings hidden in a couch. "The disappearance [of the money] was first spotted by his father. He opened the stash and saw it was empty," said Tatyana Kushnerova of the Konotop, Ukraine police department. After an argument, the son admitted taking the money during his autumn school holiday, $3,300 in U.S. cash and about 600 euros ($635), converting it to Ukrainian hryvnas with the help of an adult acquaintance and spending it on candy, which he shared with friends, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.
