ALAMOGORDO, N.M., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Animal control authorities in New Mexico said they do not know how a tortoise ended up 50 miles away from where it vanished from its owner's home.

Authorities said the African spurred tortoise was reported missing from its home in Alamogordo and turned up a week and a half later crossing a road at the Cree Meadows golf course in Ruidoso, KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, reported Wednesday.
