SILVER LAKE, Calif., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Some residents of a California town are questioning officials' decision to pay about $3,085 each for three benches at a refurbished park.

Silver Lake employed a Barcelona design company to buy the benches for the new walking path around Silver Lake and Ivanhoe reservoirs, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Friday.

The benches, which are built to survive severe weather and long-term wear and tear, have raised controversy with some residents due to their price tag. The city just recently shelled out $600,000 for a new sidewalk and retaining wall.
