NAPLES, Fla., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Police in Florida say a man accused of throwing a penny at Democratic Party workers said the coin was all his remaining money "after being taxed by Obama."

The Collier County Sheriff's Office said Gary Root, 71, of Naples was charged with trespassing after throwing the penny at workers at the Collier County Democratic Party headquarters Friday. The arrest report showed he told deputies he "tossed in a penny as a contribution as that's all he has left after being taxed by Obama," The Smoking Gun reported Tuesday.

Workers at the office described Root, who was issued a trespass warning in May following an incident at the same location, as an "ongoing problem."

Root was released Sunday after posting $1,000 bond.
