DEFIANCE, Ohio, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old cat that fled in Indiana during a cross-country trip from Pennsylvania to Nevada will be reunited with her owner, rescuers said.
The Friends of Felines Rescue Center in Defiance, Ohio, said Skittles the cat was traveling with her owner's extended family in a recreational vehicle in September when she escaped through an open window in Fremont, Ind., and vanished, WANE-TV, Fort Wayne, reported Thursday.
A Pokagon park ranger found the cat underweight and infested with fleas six weeks later and she was taken to the Steuben County Humane Society, which then turned her over to the Friends of Felines' Rescue Center for rehabilitation.
Jacci Moss, director of the rescue center, said Skittles is now well enough to travel and will be reunited with her owner Thursday in Reno, Nev. She said donations from supporters, many of whom learned the cat's story from the center's website and webcam broadcasts, will allow her to take the cat home on an airplane.
